The Secure Local Jobs initiative was launched in 2019 by the ACT Government to strengthen its procurement practices and award businesses that meet the highest ethical and labour standards. This includes compliance with:
pay and employment conditions
insurance, tax and superannuation
health and safety, including training and inductions
collective bargaining, freedom of association and representation rights.
The Code also ensures local businesses tendering for construction, cleaning, security or traffic management work have an opportunity to compete for ACT Government contracts, creating local jobs and helping grow the local economy.
Businesses need to meet the criteria set out in the Code and be awarded a Secure Local Jobs Certificate. They will also need to complete a Labour Relations, Training and Workplace Equity Plan if the value of the work is over $25.000.
To apply for or renew a Secure Local Jobs Code Certificate, you must engage an approved auditor who is independent from the ACT Government.
Audit.Group is an approved ACT Government auditor and will help make sure your business is following the rules for hiring local workers. We will guide you through the assessment process, including what information you need to provide, and will submit your application to the Secure Local Jobs Code Registrar once the assessment is complete.
